Belsh – Berat Wine Tasting Day Trip

Day Trip, Private Journey

A full day from Tirana through the karst lakes of Belsh to UNESCO-listed Berat, closing with a guided tasting and a homemade lunch at a family-run winery.

Escape the city and discover the soul of central Albania on this full-day journey from Tirana. The drive begins toward Belsh, often called “Albania’s Little Tuscany,” where rolling hills cradle a chain of striking karst lakes. From there the road climbs toward Berat — the UNESCO-listed “City of a Thousand Windows” — before the day unwinds at a family-run winery in the heart of Albania’s finest wine-growing region.

This is a day built for slow discovery: ancient stone streets, sweeping valley views, and a leisurely wine tasting paired with a homemade traditional lunch. Relaxed, scenic, and rich in history and flavour, it captures the authentic spirit of Albania in a single journey.

The day runs approximately 9 hours door to door, departing at 8:30 AM from Tirana or Durrës and returning around 5:40 PM. It operates year-round, with timings adjusting slightly for seasonal daylight and traffic. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the castle and old-town cobblestones, and the minimum age for the tasting is 18 — non-alcoholic alternatives are available for younger guests. Please tell your guide in advance about any dietary restrictions.

A Glimpse of the Journey

Why This Journey

What Makes This Journey Different

A working family winery, not a tasting room

The tasting takes place at a family-run vineyard outside Berat, in Albania’s most celebrated wine-growing region — three to four indigenous varieties poured alongside a homemade, farm-to-table lunch.

An unhurried stop, not a stopover

One hour and forty minutes are set aside at the winery, so lunch and the tasting are the centre of the day rather than something squeezed in before the drive home.

Two landscapes in one day

The karst lakes of Belsh and the Ottoman quarters of Berat sit an hour apart but belong to completely different Albanias — this route puts both inside a single, easy-paced day.

Private throughout

A private air-conditioned vehicle, a professional English-speaking guide, and hotel pickup in Tirana — the pace is yours, never a shared coach schedule.
