The Accursed Mountains earn their name from their winter silhouette — sheer limestone peaks under snow, visible from villages that empty out entirely once the roads become difficult for ordinary traffic. Travelling privately, with a driver experienced on winter mountain roads, is what makes this season accessible at all.

Alpine White begins gently, with Tirana’s own Dajti mountain as an introduction to the country’s highlands, before heading north to Shkodër and into the snowbound village of Theth. From there the route continues over the mountains to Valbonë, staying in small family-run guesthouses built for exactly this kind of winter, before returning south through Krujë’s castle to Tirana.

Your Journey

01Arrival & Mount Dajti

Private transfer from Tirana International Airport, followed by a cable car ascent of Mount Dajti for a first view of Albania’s highlands under snow.

02North to Shkodër

Drive north to Shkodër, with a visit to Rozafa Castle before settling in for the night.

03Into Theth

A dramatic winter drive into the Albanian Alps, arriving in the snowbound village of Theth by early afternoon.

04Theth at Leisure

A full day in Theth — the Lock-In Tower museum, the village church, and gentle snowshoe walks depending on conditions.

05The Mountain Crossing to Valbonë

Cross between the Alps’ two signature valleys on the traditional mountain route to Valbonë.

06Valbonë Valley

A full day exploring Valbonë Valley National Park, before the drive back toward Tirana with a stop in Krujë.

07Krujë & Departure

A morning at Krujë Castle and its old bazaar, followed by a private transfer to Tirana International Airport.
